Relationships are all around us be that in our personal, social, or work life. We hope that they are secure and nurturing but sometimes this is far from the truth. At times relationships can leave us feeling very insecure, anxious, and alone. Maybe you feel this way; that you’re in a ‘loveless’ relationship where you don’t feel appreciated and you’re just there to serve others? On the outside you function well but, on the inside, you have a sense that something is just not quite right. You’ve noticed that you don’t feel nurtured and visible, and this makes you feel sad. You feel invisible, that your voice is not heard and that your needs do not matter. You believe your role in life is solely the wellbeing and happiness of others. So much so that you constantly put your needs on the ‘back burner’. Your needs will wait you tell yourself. You don’t bring your concerns out into the open in your relationships because you would be seen as ‘being the difficult one’. That it is you who has the problem. But you noticed that you have started to grow resentful and angry, but then you start to criticise yourself for feeling this way. You tell yourself ‘It’s you’ and you try to make sense of your situation and analyse what you are doing. But no matter how hard you try things just don’t make sense; you blame yourself ‘you’re just not good enough’.
